The hemp plant is having so many uses. Even though it was well known to people, the cultivation of hemp plant was prohibited for a long time as it is a member of the cannabis family. However, during 2018, the federal government enacted the farm bill and made it legal to grow hemp plants in the USA. Even if it was a stepping stone towards the introduction of hemp CBD products in the country, it opened so many other opportunities to the people. Some of the common uses of the hemp plant are as follows.

Cloth Making

Hemp is a fibrous plant and it was used for making cloths from ancient times. The cloths made from hemp fiber are more popular in China because they are the inventors of spinning wheels that helped in extracting the hemp fiber. In China, hemp fiber is considered as a holy substance and the cloths made from it are used for many religious rituals. This material was cheap and reliable during the 19th century and was considered as common men’s fabric.

Paper Making

In earlier times, people used bamboo and wooden tablets for writing. Some people also used silk, but it was very much expensive. The first version of the papers that we use today was made in China and it was made with the pulp of hemp plant and mulberry tree barks. Later, the method of making paper from plants spread across the world and it reached the American continents during the 12th century. During 1912, the agro department of the US found better ways to make paper and it gradually removed the role of the hemp plant in the paper industry.

THC Free CBD

As mentioned earlier in this article, the legalization of the hemp plant was the stepping stone in the CBD industry. In many parts of the world, including the USA, only CBD without the presence of THC is legal. For making such products, manufacturers only had the option to use the hemp plant because the concentration of THC in marijuana plants is very high. The hemp plant is also used by many producers to make health supplements other than CBD because it is a storehouse of nutrients.

These are some of the uses of the hemp plant. During ancient times, it played a major role in the lives of people because it was used for most of their basic necessities like food, cloth, and medicine.
